This feature no doubt was gotten from Snapchat and has the characteristic of disappearing after 24 hours.
People now leverage on this new feature to post adverts, campaigns and funny pictures and videos that everyone wishes to have. This has made some resort to taking a screenshot the picture and then cropping them.
We all know that it is impossible to screenshot a video and so, videos are totally lost.
In this post, I will be showing two ways of saving these pictures and videos to your device and accessing them anytime you want.
Just grab a cup of tea or a packet of popcorn as I take you through the processes. I give it a difficulty rating of 1/5.
How to save WhatsApp status pictures and videos
Almost all the applications used on android have hidden folders where some delicate files are hidden. Also, some do have folders where pictures and videos are hidden.
The new WhatsApp status pictures and videos are hidden somewhere in our phones and we are going to reveal where they are in this tutorial.
Some android devices as we all know come with either file manager or Es File Explorer as their default file accessing applications.
Because of this, I will be discussing how to save WhatsApp status pictures and videos using these two applications so as to ensure that it can be done by everyone.
Using file manager:
✓ Without wasting time, open the file manager app and scroll down to the WhatsApp folder as can be seen in the picture below:
✓ Open the folder and click on the three dots to view more options and then click on the “show hidden folder option” as can be seen in the picture below:
✓ Immediately, a folder that ended with .statuses will appear at the top. This folder is the folder where all status pictures and videos are saved temporarily. See the picture below:
✓ Open the .statuses folder and you will see all the status pictures and videos used by your contacts. Choose the one you want to have and then copy it out of the folder to any folder of your choice. See the picture below for how the images and videos will look like:
Using ES File explorer:
✓ Open your ES file explorer app and tap on the storage location used by your android device. Mine uses internal storage as seen in the picture below:
✓ Once the storage location opens, scroll down to the WhatsApp folder and open it. The picture below shows how the WhatsApp folder looks like:
✓ You will see a folder named media inside the WhatsApp folder. You’ll see the picture below:
✓ Open the Media folder and then tap on the three lines at the top left of the app. You will see certain options. Scroll down the options until you see the “show hidden files” option. As can be seen in the picture below, it is disabled by default.
✓ Enable it and the button will look like the picture below. Also, the .statuses folder will appear as seen in the picture:
✓ Open the .statuses folder and there hides all the status pictures and videos used by your contacts on WhatsApp. Just copy anyone you want into a new folder and that’s all!
You’ve saved the pictures and videos and can now make use of it anywhere you want at any time.
